This time I worked a bit on backside top-turns. Man this still feels awkward as hell! And as Luke Hardacre says - if it feels awkward, it looks awkward. But, I’m still stoked to ve out there trying it 🤷🏼‍♂️I thought it was a full video where I ride all the way thru to the flats; but, you can see I don’t have that coffee cup going…I’m more starting to roll the windows down 😬

I think my question is…in the water, is a backside top-turn more like a kickturn on a vert ramp/ halfpipe? I feel like the line I’m drawing here is a long, sweeping arc. But in the water, wouldn’t it need to be more of a sharper up n’ down?

Send it! 🤙🏻 No literally…if you can send it this way please 🤣

Michiel van Gerven yeah, I’ve never ridden an alpine board. Always freestyle locked in at +/-15

You legend! Why didn’t I think of that!?! Haha 🤦🏼‍♂️ This particular “tripod” is made of two sticks I found at the skatepark painstakingly and precariously balanced on the edge of the pool 😳

Thanks Graham Marsden ! I think I was with you until the “back pocket”?? You mean lift the left elbow out away from my body and rotating my left coffee cup (ie. trying to put my left elbow in my back pocket) will initiate my top turn and keep me front-on facing? 😬

Good eye and much appreciated! I’ll try to open up my shoulders more. I do feel like there are some marked differences in proper stance across board sports (I have decades more experience with snowboarding and street skating)

In addition to OMBE Newbie…I’m my own videographer and editor. Which involves me setting up the camera on the side of the pool, pressing play, running down and skating to get this shot.

I can throw in a slowmo version if needed; but, would welcome any feedback. This is week 2 of pool training. I felt it wasn’t my best run but it’s the one I filmed. I feel like I need to compress all the way out of the top turn instead of as an afterthought as I’m rolling out into the flats and I think I need to focus more on my knees kissing. I need a lot more reps before it’s muscle memory.

Clayton Nienaber the tape lines you have on your bowl (yellow, orange, red), are there specific measurements for those? I know you’ve said to use a chalk line and obviously in the water it’s all dependent on the size of the wave. Just trying to get a sense of something to aim for. Cheers! 😁

Nice! I’m in PA (Lancaster). So typically I head to Sea Isle NJ (Strathmere). U wish I were further south VB or beyond. Maybe one day 🤞🏻

Coryn Daniel Yeah, I’ll explore OMBE Community a bit and see. It’d be nice to meet 2-3 others in my area that I vould surf with, get some feedback, etc. much appreciated! ✌️

Clayton Nienaber Soooo…not like this?!? 🤣
