Comfortable regardless of size! I’d love to be comfy in bigger, stormier seas, so that’s a win already! Good shout- sure daily practice makes a difference- even if on land only. Guess like some bowl set ups make surf-skating easier, some waves make learning to turn easier. You’re surf-skating looked solid so I reckon those turning skills are there waiting to be applied if the waves give you a chance!

Good shout! Totally forgot that switching out my wheels made a huge speed difference! I have 65mm roundhouse and it made a big difference!

I took a couple to show what i meant- I’m wondering about compressing more, going to the ramp behind you and using the corner to flow around for speed…i sometimes find if I hit a wall dead on, rather than side on/ at at angle like riding a wave or bowl, it kills my speed and if I take a high line (look up rather than across) Im more likely to stall. I also find you can pump through the corners to get speed! However you would have a better idea of this’d work having been there!

Graham Marsden I’m with you on dropping in- it high consequence and broken bones take you out for quite some time! That’s a great skill to just genrate speed pumping 🙂.

I most certainly can’t drop in from coping’s either, but I’ve found places with good roll in entrys. I gradually built up the steepness and size to gain confidence. Many “drop ins” in parks I ride would be little bigger or steeper than the first ramp you did, but are just enough to gain height! I know lots of skate parks are coping drop in or nothing though so there’s no option for roll in!

Yes, that’s it exactly with stomping on the tail! Beyond my skills set too so I don’t do it either! 😂

I agree - looks like speed is what you need. From my personal experience, one of 2 things helps to get speed- a big enough roll in, or banks that are close enough together to build momentum skating between them. Still working in the head low and height myself! Honestly, I dont think those roll ins are big enough to get very much speed to get heigher without some momentum building first (first roll in maybe?).

I find that compressing as I’m going down the roll in (Clayton said imagine pushing a shopping cart, or someone else said scooping up water with a bucket) REALLY helps speed generation and shoots me up high up the wall after with minimal effort- it does still need to be enough of a roll in though. It look like you are doing this a bit mind. You could also try a higher line choice in the bowl, the caveat as you know is, you need enough speed to not get stuck on the wall so you can make the turn and return down without falling (this happened to me recently going to go too high for my speed 😬!). I have friends who bypass this by stepping in the tail, pivot and come down vertically, but I’m not sure this relates to surfing, so I’m avoiding this!

Finally, I’m wondering about line choice and if after that first roll in, taking a tighter line for the wall behind rather than infront and calve the bowls corner might keep speed rather than heading straight - not sure if that makes sense!! Hard to tell line options from videos!

Graham kindly shared the link to, the pop up series which is excellent. Walking rather than jumping to pop up, straightening your back and getting more front on will help- it looks like the jumping pop up caused the wobble after getting up! I too have been working on stance due to long standing bad habits, and using some of the land based training (walk up, surfskate, botsu) really helped me make improvements in my stance, and still is helping, as you get to repeat again and again unlike catching waves!

Nothing to add beyond other suggestions of slowing the turn and staying closer to the pocket (maybe cutting back a bit more on the first one or taking a more vertical line).
