What I notice: Your arms are twisting in the opposite direction from the board’s movement. Your torso does not move, only your arms, and so your board barely does and for sure does not go where you want it to. With your back arm, you look like you’re trying to push air to change direction.

Solutions: Point your front arm where you want to go. Quiet the arms and twist from the hips, making the torso move along with the arms. Keep the twist for longer.

Your head and torso are almost static. They should turn with your board. When you go up, they should face the wave and when you go down face the beach.

Following Graham’s advice to stand up, you’ll find it easier to rotate the torso.

Matt Lyne Kale Brock has some surf mobility exercices on his YT channel. Maybe Chris Mills also. Or you can probably find a Yoga studio or Pilates class in your area.

I’ll add to the great points mentioned by Graham Marsden that you are surfing flat and surfboards go much faster on rails (less drag).

This wave looks perfect to try surfing top to bottom.

From the takeoff, nose to the beach and then bottom turn, top turn and repeat.

Coryn Daniel there are only good coaches here 🤩

No footage this time and given the weather forecast 🌧️ it may take a while before I ride the surf skate again but I’ll try to get recorded next time.

I went back to the same pump track today with the surf club. The coach gave me several tips and I improved a lot, with much less effort to get going.

The tips are:

- actively pump with the back leg (what you told me, use the legs more!)

- keep the back straight

- put more weight on the front foot downhill and in the curves

Thanks, I’ll try that.

Yes it is nice to have this pump track close by. 3 different tracks: green, blue and red.

Thanks I’ll try that.

It is in the Basque Country.

Hi riders,

I went to the pump track today, it was my second time there. I feel that I’m getting a better timing on speed generation but still lacking speed on some parts of the track.

I wonder if you guys had some tips on what I should focus on the next time I go there to improve speed and flow.

Thanks 🙏🏼

I’m wondering if training by doing reps of lunges could help. From a plank, can you place your foot between your hands as in pic?
