Emily Brooks I always tell people to put their back foot at 45 degrees because if it drifts outward it probably won't go beyond 90 degrees.

If they start at 90 degrees, it's only going to get worse...

Look at the stick surfing and skating drills to help you practice getting your coffee cup arm forward and your shoulders and hips square.

Also check your back foot is at 45 degrees from the nose too.

From the video clip that Michiel posted, look at the difference between the arm positions.

Notice how Ozzi on the right is lifting his elbows and pointing towards the "lip", whereas Michiel has his hands low.

You're doing something similar, your coffee cup arm is hanging down and trailing behind you instead of being forward as if you're trying to swing around a pole at the centre of the arc of your turn.

John Dennis I use a Gorilla pod Tripod from Joby which has flexible legs, so you can spread them out for stability or wrap them around a rail or post etc.

Note that there are cheaper knock-off copies out there, but they tend to be of poor quality and may break or fall apart.

Scott Wagenblast I think you may be bending from the waist too much.

If you look at the pic and your take off, your butt seems to be hanging over the rail as you're in a poo-man stance, rather than a sprinter position.

Also your front arm is blocking your twist so you can't look back at the foam.

Lifting the elbow and putting it in your back pocket will help.

I agree that you're not close enough to the peak, you could have been at least three board lengths to the right.

John Dennis The coffee cup is always in the rear hand. The problem many people have (including me!) is their front arm getting in their way, so "putting the elbow in the back pocket" is a good way to help prevent that 🙂

To do it successfully you really need to make sure your weight is stacked over your front foot, ie you should be able to lift your back foot off the board. If you can't, you need to get your hips forward.
