Nice one. Just got back myself. Ok hands drop on the turn to balance yourself but you need to be off balance to have the board on rail for it to turn. You are fighting to control the ride instead of looking for flow

Standing on your board will cause drag and friction and slow you down. Try surf more on heel edge off the bottom and toe edge off the top
