Hi everyone! Iโd love your advice on a board transition question.
I usually surf in the North Sea with a 7โ4 Modern double wide (it has the volume of a long board..) and feel pretty good with it. Recently I bought a 7โ0 Vision mysto soft top just for the Rotterdam wave pool RIF010 (due to the concrete wall), but itโs been rough: 10L less volume, shorter, way more wobbly. My wave count dropped and my confidence too.
Iโm starting to wonder: Did I switch too early, before really mastering the 7โ4?Or should I keep pushing with the 7โ0 in wave pools and just adapt?
In the ocean I always use the 7โ4 โ the 7โ0 was only for RIF010.Now Iโve got 10 sessions coming up at The Wave Bristol (7 intermediate, 3 advanced) and I can only bring one board.
Should I bring the 7โ4 to stay confident and catch more waves? Or bring the 7โ0 to โlevel upโ in a safer environment?
Really appreciate any thoughts or similar experiences ๐
Ok think I got it this time.
Two perspectives. Best stance I have been able to achieve so far on my backhand.
Back foot still an issue. Still getting used to booties
I really dislike nose diving so I try take off on an angle specially with my 61ltr board. This is the board Clayton made for me. Second time on the left.
I pause at the wrong time in my get up. Instead of pausing the superman. I pause during the cobra to adjust angle of board on wave.
2 questions : on take off I stick my butt out to the left in order to maintain the angle. Is this incorrect?ย
Once on my feet I take a step forward with my front foot because I feel the nose of board is too high, but perhaps its in the air because my weight is on the back foot?
Any advice greatly appreciated.ย ย - Libby
Hi everyone,
Iโve been working on my stance lately, really trying to stay as front-on as possible and focus on that โcoffee cupโ position. Iโd love to get your thoughts on this short video.
Hereโs what I noticed myself:
My back foot isnโt flat.
Knees are not kissing.
The forehand turn feels a bit awkward and stiff โ Iโm not really leaning into it.
My head stays too upright instead of getting low.
On the backhand turn, my left arm drops instead of lifting up โ although Iโve noticed that in this particular bowl, even the โgoodโ skaters seem to keep it lowโฆ maybe itโs the shape of the spot?
Overall, Iโm still not happy with my style. It just doesnโt feel fluid โ maybe itโs that glorious midlife stiffness kicking inโฆ haha!
Any feedback would be really appreciated โ Iโm keen to improve.
Thanks!
Hey guys
Would love to get some feedback on my surfskating, being working on my body shoulder rotation during the backhand/forehand + stance.
Any tips tricks and criticism is welcome ๐
Ive got an old 6'4 shortboard I'm looking to sell. I don't suppose anyone would be interested from the UK? ย I'm in London, but I'm at the wave in Bristol every week and Portcawl now and then. I'd sell it for ยฃ40 with fins and board bag included...if anyone fancies?
