These clips are several months apart and I probably averaged one or two sessions a week over that time frame. Usually end up getting a couple turns/attempt per session, so maybe the equivilant of three or four wave pool sessions. Hoping to get to one in the fall and speed up the learning curve.
Still looks like I am folding forward too much going into the turn, but I've been working on actively moving my right arm out of the way rather than letting it hang in place. This has allowed me to look back at the wave more freely, and I think the board really follows where you look. Practicing on the surfskate has helped.
Pre-OMBE I would have bolted down the line on both of these waves. Changing my line has helped get the turn count up in these short beach break waves.
Chipping away at it.
First time in a skate park in about 15 years!
Just got my surfskate last week, and had a chance this morning to try compressing/extending through some of the little transition features. Kept things small, slow, and mellow as I didn’t have protective gear and wanted to ease into things, but it felt really good to start feeling things out.
Any obvious problem areas to think about going forward? Front-on enough? I know I botched the end of one of the turns pretty badly: just kind of folded at the hip and lost speed instead of getting a good pump out of the bottom.
Michiel van Gerven I could not upload a video to my original month of training post so I have attached it here.
This equipment is much more expensive than that paddle trainer I linked earlier, but I used to do this same thing at my community gym before my wife and I bought this for ourselves because our community gym has gotta too crowded get a work out done with out wait times for everything.
I imagine you could replicate with bands as well.
I'm going for time. 1:00 x 5 sets and as it becomes easier to accomplish I add time not reps.
Beginner here! and new to OMBE! I’m only just now learning to ride down the face of the wave and if I am able to, I want to push myself to try turning. I’m open to any suggestions or tips for entering this new phase from all of you amazing surfers out there!! I plan on buying a surf skate to help too. (This is Progressive turns at Urbnsurf)
Hello,
has anyone here already tried using an Insta360 X4 or X5 with a back mount like in the picture? And do you have a brand you would recommend?
The footage looks really cool, but I'm not sure if it would hold up in bigger (overhead) waves...
Thanks,
Thierry
Hey OMBE, stoked to be part of the community and was curious if anyone had any feedback for how to get my arms to stop flailing around like a wet noodles. I need the coffee cup! But whenever I seem to “get speed” my arms get a mind of their own. Open to any other feedback as well. I’m committed to surfing every day for the next three months I’m hoping to find some quick improvement
Hi, about to head off on a surf trip to Maldives, will be surfing pasta point and sultans most of the time. I am wondering if anyone knows these waves well and has any tips on the different sections or other tips for these breaks and the ones nearby.
New to OMBE here, hoping someone can break down what the coffee cup hand means? Thank you so much 🙏
