Two perspectives. Best stance I have been able to achieve so far on my backhand.

Back foot still an issue. Still getting used to booties

I really dislike nose diving so I try take off on an angle specially with my 61ltr board. This is the board Clayton made for me. Second time on the left.

I pause at the wrong time in my get up. Instead of pausing the superman. I pause during the cobra to adjust angle of board on wave.

2 questions : on take off I stick my butt out to the left in order to maintain the angle. Is this incorrect?

Once on my feet I take a step forward with my front foot because I feel the nose of board is too high, but perhaps its in the air because my weight is on the back foot?

Any advice greatly appreciated.   - Libby

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on my stance lately, really trying to stay as front-on as possible and focus on that “coffee cup” position. I’d love to get your thoughts on this short video.

Here’s what I noticed myself:

My back foot isn’t flat.

Knees are not kissing.

The forehand turn feels a bit awkward and stiff — I’m not really leaning into it.

My head stays too upright instead of getting low.

On the backhand turn, my left arm drops instead of lifting up — although I’ve noticed that in this particular bowl, even the “good” skaters seem to keep it low… maybe it’s the shape of the spot?

Overall, I’m still not happy with my style. It just doesn’t feel fluid — maybe it’s that glorious midlife stiffness kicking in… haha!

Any feedback would be really appreciated — I’m keen to improve.

Thanks!

Ive got an old 6'4 shortboard I'm looking to sell. I don't suppose anyone would be interested from the UK?  I'm in London, but I'm at the wave in Bristol every week and Portcawl now and then. I'd sell it for £40 with fins and board bag included...if anyone fancies?

I'm going to be at Croyde from the afternoon of Tuesday 15th until the Friday morning if anyone's interested in joining me for a surf 🏄‍♂️

Breezy and quiet. Found a few fine ones. Feeling the difference lately — grateful for everything I’ve learned through OMBE.

Si - I think you call it a double concave. Maria, I don't use wax. I hate it melting in the car and sticking to my wetsuit. The front black pad is just a rubber traction mat. The hexagon's are a type of grip and are called RS Pro. Do I slip on this. Sometimes but rarely, certainly not enough to send me back to the wax option.

This clip is a few months old and maybe too zoomed out to see enough detail, but this type of fall at the end of the wave drives me crazy. Some variation of that fall happens about 50% of the time I go for a cutback/carve. Used to be 100% of the time, so there has definitely been some progress. What's the number one thing to focus on to prevent digging the rail and/or flopping backwards on the cutback? I can see a few things I did wrong in this attempt but what was the biggest issue?
