Possible future OMBE Surf training in America?!?
Just found out Myrtle Beach, South Carolina will be building a wave park by 2026, if I recall the news story correctly. It will be less than 5 miles from my house. We also have a small bowl to skate at the local skate park.
Clayton, if you ever wanna expand some surf training to the US.... and this park ever ACTUALLY gets built. I would LOVE to be the first student to sign up. Brah...you could even crash in my spare room if need be and if you can deal with my crazy kids yelling all day.
Myrtle beach doesn't typically get good ocean waves outside a few during the hurricane months (Aug-Nov). But a surf park would make that a non-issue. And I've already been preaching the OMBE method at the local skatepark and bowl to some of the local boys.
Think about it bro..... you got plenty of time to work out the details.
Let me know....LOL

Before I injured my shoulder:

Back squats with barbell (can do Dumbbell or goblet squats if no barbell)

Deadlift

Push-ups weighted or benchpress

Barbell bent over row

Military press or pull-up

Dips weighted

Walking lunge with rotation using medicine ball

Plank (max time)

All exercises 6-8 reps. If more than 8 reps increase weight. 3 times per week.

Cardio on 2 off days (I use rowing machine cause I despise running)

Other 2 days either foam rolling or breathe work. Use some Apnea trainer I downloaded.

Stretching before every workout and lightly again after.

If you want variety I strongly recommend you check out surfstrengthcoach. Programs of all kinds, bodyweight, with weights, stretch protocols, etc.

Yewwwww!

Beginner. But improving every surf, when I actually get some. Have improved my bowl riding a ton from where I started 5 months ago, hoping in translates into my surfing the next time we get some swell.

Agree with Grahams comment that back arm needs to be ahead of the front arm to get you more front on.

Also I find it helpful to throw my hands up towards your target on the transition. It will help you learn to unweight and get you higher up the slope to then gain more speed on the way down.

I just learned transition skating myself so I know how scary it can be. I found it helpful to fully pad up...elbows, knees, helmet, wrist guards and even hip pads. It helped me get over the fear of falling cause I felt protected and that really helped me work my way higher up the transition.

Keep at it...it will come.

Your last 2 turns or pumps, however you want to refer to then are your best ones. That is the motion you need not that side to side wiggle. Throw those hands up towards your target and extend on the up, compress onto the front foot at the peak to weight your way back down the ramp with speed.

Just curious if anyone that has been bowl/ramp skating with their Cx or C5 trucks has switched to riding regular skateboard trucks like Indys or the like.
I've been enjoying my transition skating so much as I've become more comfortable with it but have a new found desire to try some normal skateboarding tricks like Ollie's, maybe grinding a few rails and just utilizing the features of my local park more every time I go.
Recently switched my deck from the Carver Quill, with a 17" wheelbase, to an Andy Anderson Heron deck with my C5s trucks. But the Heron deck does have a 2" shorter wheelbase, which is made even shorter with the reverse kingpin of the C5 front truck.
So now I'm considering throwing some Indy trucks on that to widen that out to the 15" wheelbase the Heron deck has. Was wondering if anyone has switched to standard skateboard trucks and how that compares to the C5s or CX trucks, since we are all probably skating to improve our surfing.
Any thoughts or experiences are welcome as I've never really ridden a normal skateboard truck.
Also for anyone trying out new wheels on their surfskate. The powell peralta dragon wheels are mindblowing amazing. Highly recommend! I don't think I'll ever skate a different wheel after trying these.

Same problem I have. I can pop up great natural. If you use the what foot do you kick a ball with, that should be your back foot then I'd be natural. I can't even pop-up goofy while surfing.

You put me on a surfskate and I'm so much better goofy. If you use what beginner skateboard videos tell you to do running and imagining your sliding on ice then I'd be goofy also.

I've been teaching myself to skate natural and it's been a long process and it still feels better to skate goofy. Pushing off is easier. Balancing is easy. Being weighted over my front foot is easier.

I am debating with myself if I should just skate goofy and spend the time teaching myself to surf goofy as well. I'm equally terrible at both so I don't know.

You can teach yourself to skate the opposite way. I've done it myself. If you figure out the right answer let me know cause I'm just as confused as you are.

Potassium, bananas etc, and a pre surf stretch or roll a golf ball over it for a few minutes before going out.
