Scott Wagenblast yea. I miss Jersey waves. Used to surf the south jetty in Brigantine all the time. I do surf more here cause the water is warmer and I work 3 blocks from the ocean so that's nice. The waves are much weaker and good less often though.

Pretty sure the ocean floor shelf here extends much further off shore making the waves weaker and less size.

Win some lose some I guess.

Scott Wagenblast cherry Grove is my usual surf spot down here. This is what our forecast looks like 75% of the year.

Graham Marsden this is a screen capture only a few frames after the one you took. Watching the video it doesn't seem like my body position or the bend in my elbow changes much in the between frames. So it really feels like I'm in a similar position.

Again, I may not be. It's hard to tell cause it happens In maybe 3 or 4 frames of my cell footage and if a view from behind, plus I'm wearing all black which makes it even harder to distinguish my body characteristics. It's my work uniform and I don't get to pick color, though I probably would have chosen black anyway.

I'm for sure interested in getting a new angle of it now though to find out for sure. I would love to find a way to hang the camera over the coping to get a true front on shot without running into my phone.

Maybe I'll rig something up this weekend to see if I can make that happen.

Graham Marsden I think it's more so the camera angle than anything else. Again, I could be wrong cause I don't have that angle of myself.

This is what it feels like I'm doing by being in that hunched or leaning position.

Now I'm super curious to get film from a different angle to see if this is actually what I'm doing or not.

I don't know how I could set the camera up to film it this way yet though. At the time I go to the park no one else is there to video for me, and as I mentioned I use to traffic cone with the top cut off that holds my phone but it won't allow the phone to angle down to get a closer perspective.

Might have to invest in a tripod or selfie stick to get a clip.

I think it may look more behind me because of the camera angle than it actually is. I can't film from a different angle though cause I use a traffic cone, that the skaters ollie over, to hold my phone, and filming from this point is the only way to get the 2 turns into frame since I can not angle the phone down or anything.

I can try to maybe film just the second turn from a different angle to confirm. But it never feels like it's behind me. I really tried today to be conscious of my arms because I wanted to stop dropping them to my knees before the turns.

As to the being hunched over I don't know if that is fixable because I have to lean so hard toe side to be able to make that cutback turn.

I was really focused on trying to airplane bank to get my head lower in order to make the 2 turns In side a tight bowl. I feel like as soon as I hit the drain if I'm not completely toe weighted I won't fit it in.

I can't say that with 100% certainty for now but when I watch the full clips, anytime I am more upright I can't get the 2nd turn in and hit that blue ledge.

I will attempt to film a different angle to give a different perspective of it though.

Bro you don't even know what completely flat is LOL. I moved from NJ to SC (myrtle beach). I swear we have the smallest swell window in the world, it's always flat here. The waves are the ONLY thing i miss about NJ, well maybe that and the legal mary jane.

So no, unfortunately, I have not surfed recently. This is one of the main reasons I skate the bowl so much, it's all I have :(

NJ was firing around Christmas and I sat down here watching it and crying. My only saving grace is we are "supposed" to get a wave garden in 2 years 10 mins from my house.

Looks like you are trying to do your cardboard slide and extension at the bottom when you're in the flats.

You do your first turn, go up the wave down the wave, then it looks like your standing flat on your board and not at the up part of the wave when you try to do your first cardboard slide and extension and you don't get anywhere cause there is no curve in that part of the wave to help draw you back up the face.

You also seem to never really extend on the ups, your knees stay bent almost the whole time and you appear to be hinged more at the waist rather than standing up straight back and kissing the back knee to the front knee.

I mean you can honestly surf skate anywhere. Smooth street, car park, parking garage with some downhill slopes, skate parks, pump tracks, drain your neighbors pool and skate that.

You just have to be careful if your skating flat ground to not start bad habits like the dreaded wiggle. Like Clayton says take a few good pushes and practice that one good turn, not a bunch of bad habits (wiggle) than 1 good turn.

I mean depending where you filming your gonna need a long distance lens.

My wife who is a photography buff says if she were attempting to video me surfing using her Sony A7iii camera she would need either a 70 to 200 or a 200 to 400 lens. Both that camera and the lens are super expensive.

If you were to try to use your cellphone to record I know they make lens that clip/slide over your stock phone lens to allow you to zoom in further.

This is not really my area of expertise but again my wife is really into photography and those are her recommendations for if she was trying to shoot surf video from shore at the distance most waves break from her safe shooting distance.
