Totally agree surfboard marketing is absolute nonsense. One of my favourites was the marketing video for the dumpster diver 2. "It's a small wave board", next shot shows Dane Reynolds doing a backflip. Instant classic.

I quite like to try friends' boards. Especially for shapes I would not normally consider. Also I try to problem solve when building my quiver. For instance: Nose getting caught on steeper takeoff. Maybe try something with more rocker and a thinner nose. Waves require a shortboard but lack power, try a squash tail instead of a round tail etc.

Boxy as in slabby barreling wave? No defined shoulder suggests a close or maybe a particularly racy wave?
