It does depend on how flexible you are, but the simple explanation is that having the back foot at 45 degrees makes it easier to kiss the knees and compress on the front foot.

Also, if you get used to practicing with it at 45 degrees and then it drifts more towards 90 when you're surfing, it's still in a pretty good place for you to be front on, but if you practice with it at 90 degrees, you're more likely to end up with a side on or poo man stance.

Here's a video I made for myself a while back, perhaps it will help clarify things 🙂

You take off well, but then your legs are stiff and you're bending from the waist with your hands and head down.

Have a look at the Bosu ball Neutral Stance drills and maybe get a surf skate to practice stacking on the front foot and keeping your elbows up and your shoulders back so you can compress on the front leg with your back straight 🙂

Some video of your surfing would help, but here's some ideas.

The Oreo technique is tricky, you need to be able to spot where the wave is starting to draw up and recognise that the wave is going to peel with a good shoulder, rather than just closing out.

This needs a lot of practice (trust me, I know!)

Possibly trying a longer board with more volume might help, is there anywhere local to rent them?

Alternatively, chat with people in the line up and see what they are riding, so maybe you could swap with them for a few waves?

I'd suggest lifting your inside elbow and trying to put it in your back pocket. That will let you turn your body more and look back towards the camera instead of looking down at the ground so you can push the coffee cup arm through.

Have a look at the Understanding your equipment video in the Intermediate Path which gives advice on how the different board types work.

Jeremy Dean Is usually the person to contact about issues like this, but I'm not sure if he's active at the moment as several posts to him recently have not been addressed 😕

1) Stop wiggling! 🙂 Push with your foot to get speed, rather than developing a habit that won't help you on the wave2) You need to get your weight stacked on the front foot more. At the moment you're sitting back which slows you down.Look at the Bosu Ball Neutral Stance Drills and get used to having your head up and your hips forward. Also check out this video from Clay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fpmrg6laAx4

There's an app called Lazy Surfer which lets you give the surf a rating every time you go out.

The more ratings you add, the better it learns your preferences and can alert you when the conditions are good.

Looks fabulous.

Wish I could afford to get there 😪

Benjamin Golding-Webb When you come down the slope, you extend your legs.

At the moment, your hands aren't doing much.

As you extend, lift your elbows and push your hands forward (like a cardboard slide) to give yourself a bit more impetus.
