When I moved from uk to Western Australia 8 years ago I copped it hard, for like 12 months I got smoked every session as the waves are so different

Just have to persevere mate I had numerous times I nearly packed it in and took up golf, 8 years later I’m loving surfing and ride a range of boards in different conditions

It gets easier 👍

By boxy do you mean hollow and fast ie barreling?

There’s lots to dive into, type of board your using? Does it have enough rocker to handle the steep drop into a barrel? Speed of your walk up probably needs to be really quick and board angled appropriately or your gonna get smoked , lots of variables

Don’t be hard on yourself mate your going good! You do a similar issue to me our left arm getting in the way, release tension and twist more to help turns, surf skate drills help!

One thing that has helped me heaps is slowing down the take off you had time to glide in and pick your line

I think you could slow down the take off mate , slow is smooth and smooth is fast

Your doing great mate I do exactly the same thing, got a carver like 2 weeks ago just started on bowls and man the fear takes over when I go for that second turn
