Discussion: Bring back the live sessions (?)
Why I think it was better:
- you could be sure your footage gets reviewed at a specific date. getting footage reviewed was my main reason for signing up, but haven’t been reviewed since the change
- it was the only non-asynchronous format to engage with the OMBE team in realtime which was quite exciting
- the conversations between Ant and Clay offered an extra layer of depth to the analysis and it was more engaging to rewatch, learn from everyone else and follow along seeing Clay or Ant “acting out” their ideas
This isn’t a criticism just feedback and was wondering if it’s just me, but I’ve felt a bit unhappy about the change. only way to find out is opening up to the community what’s your thoughts?
(For transparency: I’ve only joined / submitted to one live in the past myself and rewatched many others but signed up recently to do it more regularly but now they’re gone)
Hey just a quick question. I’ve been surfing the advanced wave at the wave pool and I’m fairly comfortable on this setting. Recently I’ve started surfing the advanced plus setting (a bigger more powerful wave). I make the take off on this wave about 50% of the time and I’m trying to work out what I’m doing wrong. The times I mess this up even though I’m angling the board I tend to nose dive. I’ve tried a few things to try and make this better. First I changed board moving to more of a high performance short board with a bit more rocker as I thought maybe the board wasn’t fitting into the wave. Now I’m thinking perhaps I should experiment with the take off angle. Looking at some footage it looks like I drop in to the bottom of the wave and bottom turn. Perhaps I need to angle the board more, stay higher on the wave, pop up, then ride down the face and bottom turn? Anyone have any thoughts?
Hey crew. I wanted to share a breakthrough insight I’ve had recently. I’ve heard it said before in different ways, but I feel there’s been a switch flipped in my take off.
As best as I can explain…
Surfing doesn’t start when I stand up. It starts as I paddle for the wave. More so it starts the first hint of lift and energy from the wave. Now I’m looking where I want to go and adjusting the front to back and side to side angle of the board to surf the wave. Now as I stand up, I’ve gotta be smooth to not upset that planing and angle I’ve chosen to get into the wave. I’m still surfing the wave right through the process of getting to my feet. Now, hopefully my feet are in the right spot on the board, but even if not, I’m still surfing the wave as it seems most appropriate to do at that time as best as I can. Looking and feeling the wave and the board and getting into that athletic fighting/ sprinting stance to be ready to do the next appropriate thing.
Bit of an obvious one I guess, but really concentrating on this has completely transformed my take off.
Big love.
Hi all, just a heads up that Video Submission page is bugged. I've tried multiple times to upload a video and keep getting a dialogue saying "The field is required" (see pic), despite having successfully uploaded the video and ticked the disclaimer box. This is essentially breaking the form and preventing submission from working.
I also tried to upload a video to the Community for feedback, but there is no way to actually attach/upload a video. I can only search existing videos (see second pic). Not sure if I'm doing something wrong here or if it's another bug?
Our latest YT has just dropped. https://youtu.be/uy3hrtBav7k?si=xyWrhfY5vcRu-Zme
Photo of the local here in WA yesterday,
Realisation that getting a carver has been the number 1 biggest help for my surfing since I started around 10 years ago, if your on the fence about getting one just do it, hit a bowl to practice in, have some fun and you’ll notice the difference in your surfing!

Bosu paddling/duck dive drills - How long are we supposed to do each block for?
Sometimes it's nice to see the Pros struggling too. This is typical at one of my local breaks in North Devon, UK. Getting smashed regularly on the inside of a gnarly Beach Break devoid of any obvious Bus Stops 🤣
Hello - what is the best way to upload a video for review ? I can’t find the link I used previously
