Awesome thanks

Thank you Graham, as usual. I did the arm that way today and indeed it flows much better.

Thanks Scott! I will try

Thank you Michiel, I did not know there was a bowl over there. Wat leuk! I will definitely give it a try. I saw your YouTube videos and it seems indeed better to practice turns!

How did you get it?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on my stance lately, really trying to stay as front-on as possible and focus on that “coffee cup” position. I’d love to get your thoughts on this short video.

Here’s what I noticed myself:

My back foot isn’t flat.

Knees are not kissing.

The forehand turn feels a bit awkward and stiff — I’m not really leaning into it.

My head stays too upright instead of getting low.

On the backhand turn, my left arm drops instead of lifting up — although I’ve noticed that in this particular bowl, even the “good” skaters seem to keep it low… maybe it’s the shape of the spot?

Overall, I’m still not happy with my style. It just doesn’t feel fluid — maybe it’s that glorious midlife stiffness kicking in… haha!

Any feedback would be really appreciated — I’m keen to improve.

Thanks!

Thanks Graham, your comments are always very useful! Yes I definitely see that my weight is on the back foot, which going down the wave/skatebowl, is not correct indeed. I should be much more on my front foot. I think I was doing that to press with my back foot more on the heel. Regarding the arm yes I get your point. I was just reviewing the video on the intermediate line and it says exactly this. I’ll try next time!

I am still so far away from decent surfing that this is even embarrassing to say, but I have felt the “buttons” on the board for the first time and could turn to the foam and the back to the face of the wave. Skateboarding is helping a lot. Next time I’d like to drop more vertical from the pop up and try a proper bottom turn. In addition I have to look better towards were I want to go. On the skate it’s starting to happen. Not yet in the water.

It is a great opportunity in my opinion. For sure if you need/want to improve. It’s good for surfer of all levels who want to practice. On the other hand it is less good than the Wave in Bristol for example. That is much better. Still, it’s a good alternative to the inconsistent Dutch waves. I go to train and try to improve.

I will. Thank you! The legs: so more compression, more going down?
