Thanks! lots of stuff I'll be able to work on in the ombe program before I can paddle again. Hoping to get back on the bosu ball and eventually the surf skate in a month or two

Clayton answers this question on the Basis surf podcast, episode 25 around the 1:09 hour mark. My two cents is that head position will depend on your positioning relative to the wave, so each wave you are paddling for requires that in the moment assessment of what to do. I think most surfers will have a better ridden wave if they are positioned well and following the Oreo method since you will able to be smooth with your pop up, end up in good posture, and draw a nice line. In contrast if you are head down scratching into one you have a higher chance of being in an awkward stance when you get to your feet, not looking at where you are going, or getting pitched over the falls.
