I definitely have an addiction to surfing. I feen like a meth addict... not that I really know what that feels like, being addicted to any type of drugs or alcohol 😂

Libby Stano If money and time permits keep surfing those pools! Its a great way to increase your wave count and takeoffs and build confidence. The wave pool by me gives me the opportunity to get about 30 waves per session. It’s controlled and there’s far less to think about! Planning an outing end of June. And my hubby is taking me in July for my birthday to the Waco TX surf pool. We booked three sessions each there.

The nice thing about surfing is that you don’t have to go after every wave. You can choose which ones you feel comfortable with. Did you feel that way surfing the wave pool? Or only in the ocean?

Libby Stano I’m definitely consciously incompetent at this bosu drill that I finally did last night! I remember my martial arts instructor saying, when you’re feeling like you really suck, it’s because you’re getting better at fill in the blank and you are aware of how it should be. You’re moving on to the next level.

Visualization is such a great tool. I use it right before going to sleep. I work on things I want to improve and it allows me to work out the details. So many athletes use this. OMBE has lots of visualization content.

It is difficult, board sports are not created equal. Forging new muscle memory takes a lot of time, practice and dedication, it’s not a one and done process. I think we can be really impatient with ourselves, too. When we’re out in the water, it’s really important to keep it fun. That’s why we’re surfing, in the first place. It’s difficult to cancel out your go-to moves because they’re so automatic especially while operating under all this adrenaline. Are you experiencing freeze at any point while surfing?

I feel the same about my left leg!!! PT helps, no doubt, but it is a long process. No quick fixes.

Agreed!!! There’s bigger fish to fry than worrying about nitty gritty things… for example, focus on where we want to go. At the same time though, the purpose of land drills is to perfect the muscle memory and coordination. Make it part of our daily practice. At least for me it’s important. And I know the difference if when I have to think about something vs. it being etched into split second memory. 😀

Hi Libby, that’s a very detailed exercise you did… I mean that in a good way! Are there parts of this drill that you stumble on or do you feel like you’re in a good flow? Are there parts of this that feel like you have to really think about the movement or what’s next?

I think while we’re overthinking things we’re not in flow and just not working from a place of feeling it. I don’t typically surf with my back foot up like that so why it’s in my land drill?? I don’t know 🤣
