Ive been there Pete,  we all have. Some day are good and some days are a nightmare. Stick to it. That 5% will become 10% and then 15% and so on.

The technique is the same for both. The physics are different, so get really good at the land training to mimic it in the water adjusting accordingly.

You asked this question somewhere else. I have answered there. 

If you have to kick to get into the wave, most likely you are in the wrong part of the wave. You kick when you need a little extra to get into the wave but ideally you should not even have to paddle.

Better late than never they say!
Absolutely Laurence, I use this all the time. Laughing and talking is really helpful especially when the waves are big. Maybe is half way in!
