Exciting Changes Ahead! 🌊We’ve restructured our footage review process to make it more beneficial for everyone. While live sessions will be on pause as we adapt to new dynamics with our two candidates, we’re thrilled to announce a fresh approach: your submissions will now be reviewed and shared here in the community! Here’s why we’re embracing this new method:βœ”οΈMore Engagement: Posting reviews here encourages interaction and brings our quieter members into the conversation. Lives were limiting, as only those free at the time could participate.βœ”οΈFlexibility for Clay: With a packed schedule of retreats next year, this setup allows Clay to review submissions remotely during his downtimeβ€”ensuring faster and more consistent feedback.βœ”οΈEasier Access: Every review and takeaway will be visible to everyone, making it simpler to learn and improve without sifting through past live sessions.βœ”οΈFocused Feedback: This organized system will help you concentrate on specific areas to improve.πŸ”” A few reminders: β€’ Submit one video at a time to give everyone a fair chance for feedback. β€’ Avoid submitting distant or surf-cam footageβ€”Clay needs clear visuals to provide effective, actionable advice. We can’t thank you enough for your support, patience, and understanding as we work through these changes together. Your willingness to adapt and grow with us means the world, and we’re so appreciative of this amazing community. πŸ™P.S. I’ve added a Google sheet in the comments for tracking your submissions. If you’d like your older footage skipped, simply select β€œY” in column F. This will indicate you’re uploading newer training footage. If you select β€œN,” Clay will proceed with reviewing your current submission. Let us know if you have any questions!

Hello,

has anyone here already tried using an Insta360 X4 or X5 with a back mount like in the picture? And do you have a brand you would recommend?

The footage looks really cool, but I'm not sure if it would hold up in bigger (overhead) waves...

Thanks,

Thierry

Hey OMBE, stoked to be part of the community and was curious if anyone had any feedback for how to get my arms to stop flailing around like a wet noodles. I need the coffee cup! But whenever I seem to β€œget speed” my arms get a mind of their own. Open to any other feedback as well. I’m committed to surfing every day for the next three months I’m hoping to find some quick improvement

Hi, about to head off on a surf trip to Maldives, will be surfing pasta point and sultans most of the time. I am wondering if anyone knows these waves well and has any tips on the different sections or other tips for these breaks and the ones nearby.

New to OMBE here, hoping someone can break down what the coffee cup hand means? Thank you so much πŸ™

Man! Feeling really defeated. I wish I had footage of my surfing to share but I went for a solo surf yesterday. I would put myself somewhere around Line 1-Line 2. I find on bigger (read as 2-4ft+) days I can’t even catch a wave or pop up. I feel like I stress paddle, expend all my energy only to get left behind by the wave or go over the falls. Placement on the wave is almost certainly an issue.

Can anyone give me details or point me to tutorials on where/when on the wave I should be popping up? I think I may be way late to try and pop up and wind up riding the back of the wave towards the falls. Should I just try popping up as soon as I feel any lift in the tail and notice the nose start to point down the face? I wish there was someone posting POV with a mouthguard GoPro AND drone so I could see when they are popping

Help!

So first ride on my new board 4 litres down and a lot thinner then what I normally ride. Trying to get my left arm actually involved in my surfing as normally it tends just to do nothing at all. Getting there I think.

Surfboards and shapers

As I've progressed up the... -- Lines πŸ˜‰ -- I've also dived into the world of buying surfboards.Β  99% of surfcraft is advertised as works in anything, turns like a dream, and stable as heck i.e. one board quiver killers.Β  Personally, I like to know the details, like the rocker, contours, glassing schedule, even the (foam) weight-- I want to be confident that what I'm getting is what I needΒ to invest in.

Would be cool to know how you all approach this- and how you decide on what fits your need, and who you go with.Β

Even cooler to know how someone that shapes, like Clayton, cuts through all the noise!

Struggling with take off on boxy waves with no defined shoulder. Last sesh everyone struggled in general but the few successful rides were by people angling at takeoff. I was either getting pitched off mid-wave or shooting to the flats and trying to stand up there. Can you tie together the principles of, fastest path, taking off in bottom 1/3 of wave and angling in general but in boxy waves in particular.

Is the old OMBE app still working?

When I go into it I get a message telling me to update it, but according to Google play store, I am up to date... πŸ€”

Following my previous post about finding that I suddenly found I could actually do a pop up on dry land, I wanted to see if I could do it on water.

The conditions weren't great (small, messy, short-period windswell) but there were a few waves to catch and, thankfully, after a couple of false starts, I managed this:

Ok, it's not particularly fluid yet and I was doing it on my 8'2, so I was pushing up off the top of my foot, rather than the shin or knee, but it's a startΒ πŸ™‚

And there's a bit of knee-kissing and coffee cup passing too at the end!
