@ Alex. Actually depending on the size of your board your foot will be in the correct spot. on A short board your feet are quite a way off the tail. And it is more of a swing the body into position then stepping. EVerything is more dynamic on the water. Your back foot should land on the tail pad and the front foot land in the center. On land your foot has to come directly under your hips so the move works. it is only an approximation. and to make sure you land your back foot first. not your front foot first
