Good question. I can’t remember. What I do know is before the BAD one I had done 2 good turns before on the same wave. Maybe I was a bit knackered

Yup Graham you can see in that pic… straight spine versus bending from the hip… Clay always talks about that you can see it there in your picture clearly.

My first thought was look at how I swing my left (back) arm in the better clip. A lot like Ethan does. In the bad one.. I didn’t. Which ruined the rotation

Nice waves. On the lefts you need to look back at the foam. You looking down the line on those turns. On the last one you tried to do it… so you getting there. Keep trying

I thought I would drop this here for community comments… it’s 2 different waves taken on the same session. 1 carve was great… the other sucked! …. Why?

Let the wave dictate to you when to turn and what type of turn to do …

Flat = cutback to the power source

Tapered = carve

Steep hollow = re-entry vertical.

Mine I would say was a bit more of a carve than a cutback

“Tension” Aha Moment…Now and then we all wake up with a stiff neck from sleeping wrong on our pillow right? Well I was almost healed and went surfing. Whilst waiting for a wave I had full range to turn my head with only slight discomfort.

I took off on a wave and BOOM I couldn’t even move my neck. Total paralysis. I paddled back out and sat … moved fine. Why?

I was tense and my sore neck exasperated it.

Here is me that same session with a stiff neck but consciously relaxing.

Really drove home Clayton’s point about stiffness and tension killing your movements
