The rail biting is the opposite of the rail popping like a cork because is too thick. If you put too much pressure in a thin rail it'll give in. 

yes, you are exactly right. Too much pressure in the tail of your board on a bottom turn and you will lose it.

Hello Tom, please follow the techniques shown in the video. Thats our recommendation. 

The technique is the same regardless of the size of the wave.  It would be nice to have a video of yourself doing a cutback so we can better indicate to you what to do.

Hey Jackson, It means don't start your paddle from the surface but rather push a little under and then paddle. 

The best advice is to get a few different size and shapes and try them see what you like more.
